Chives are about as easy and rewarding as herbs get. The grassy clumps are one of the very first green things to push up each spring, giving you a mild onion flavor for eggs, potatoes, and salads long before much else is ready. They're fully hardy here and come back stronger every year, slowly forming a bigger clump you can divide and share. The pretty purple pom-pom flowers are edible too and the bees adore them. Full sun, average water, and the occasional haircut to keep fresh growth coming are all they ask.
