Miss Kim Lilac — Dwarf lilac (Syringa) at Wild Geese Gardens

Dwarf lilac (Syringa)

Miss Kim Lilac

A compact, intensely fragrant lilac that fits smaller yards and turns burgundy in fall.

  • Sunlight: full sun
  • Water: moderate
  • Season: Blooms late spring; hardy deciduous shrub
  • Price: $30–$55

Miss Kim is the lilac for gardeners who love the scent but don't have room for a giant. It stays compact and rounded — easy to place along a walk or foundation — and in late spring it covers itself in fragrant, icy-lavender blooms that perfume the whole yard. As a bonus, its leaves take on a burgundy tint in fall, giving it more season than a common lilac. It's very cold-hardy, blooms a little later than standard lilacs (a nice way to stretch the season), and asks only for full sun and decent drainage. Prune right after flowering to protect next year's buds.
